Grief Companion Services
Grief is a journey that need not be traveled alone. Having a loved one die changes each of our lives as we mourn their passing and reflect on what is left for us. Mary Dravis-Parrish knows this journey well. When her son died by suicide followed by her brother four years later, she began to ask some important questions about her own life. And as she asked, "What now?" possibilities began to come forth that showed her that one can come out of grief, tragedy and trauma better then before. A person can choose to use these events as keys to opening up a different life than they knew before. People can actually do more than survive loved ones dying and choose to have a life that flourishes and brings joy, peace and comfort. Mary uses her experiences along with tools and strategies to transform the grief journey into an adventure that honors the life of the person left behind as well as the person who has passed on. She offers each grieving person she works with a process that moves them through their grief with ease at the pace they are willing and ready to travel.
Mary has worked with the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County facilitating grief support groups focusing on those who have been left behind by a loved one who has died from suicide. She has seen group members step into new insights about death, love and living. People come to group feeling hopeless and immersed in sadness and leave feeling supported, encouraged and cared for. What is a Grief Companion?
A grief companion is someone...
· Who knows the debilitating effects of grief and has been journeying through it.
· Offers support, encouragement, hope and enlightenment to the mourner that will bring about a journey that moves through the grief and into a life of meaning and purpose.
· Assures the griever that they are not alone and that they can travel through this and come out in tact and perhaps even better than before the "loss."
· Knows the value of traveling at your own pace stepping into new possibilities as the griever is willing and ready.
This grief companion has not taken any official certification classes but has lived the experience and traveled with others. She gains her insights from resources that have enlightened her and made her journey one to treasure.
