For many it is a love/hate relationship. We love having it for many reasons and we hate that we never seem to have enough of it. As with any relationship, our experience with money is affected by our beliefs about money. Judgments in any relationship- whether with people or with money- will determine the outcome.
- Money is the root of all evil
- Money doesn't buy happiness
- There isn't enough money to go around
- Money doesn't grow on trees
- Rich people are greedy
- It is better to give than to receive
I found it helpful to think of money as if it were air. Would I be afraid that I didn't have enough air to breathe? Would I worry where my next breath would come from? Can I trust that air is always there and I don't need to hold onto more air than I need in order to have it for the future? Can I envision that there is a flow to money that when I am in joy and gratitude money can come in and go out with ease, always having it available to have and to spend.
For some people this may be a stretch because they have lived in money struggle for so long that even if they had money they would still be fearful and worried. I found the key to changing this mindset is to use tools that will help me remove my limiting beliefs, fears and judgments about money. I use the tools of Access Consciousness which have been instrumental in allowing me to receive more money into my life and even more importantly to change my relationship with money to one of gratitude, joy and invitation. What if money were your best friend? An exercise I also found helpful was to write a letter to money as my long lost friend and invite money back into my life with a focus to treat money differently than I had before. It was a heartfelt letter and it opened my eyes to the way I have treated money in the past.
Is this February the month you change your relationship with money? I will be hosting a couple of classes that will address money issues. You can find out more about them here. What would it take for you and money to reconcile your differences to create a more abundant life?
